Emily Jayne Alexander is a New York-based and self-taught photographer. A California native, Alexander moved most years of her youth, sailing the Pacific Ocean with her family, and was brought up homeschooled. Her nontraditional experiences with education have informed her process in photography: from an early age, she learned to use her camera to ask questions. Published in the The New York Times, Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, and other venues, Alexander enjoys photographing home life, education, science and technology. She works as an educator in Manhattan, where she encourages her students to look at history and form their own inquiries, just as she does in her photography.
